Off-road vehicles now have more access to the shoulder and paved portions of SOME Ontario highways. As of July 31/03, municipalities were given the authority to decide if they would issue a by-law to allow access to their highways and to set out rules and limits for the use. This regulation applies to off-road vehicles that:

  • have 4 wheels, the tires of which are all in contact with the ground
  • have steering handlebars
  • have a seat designed to be straddled by the driver
  • meets requirements of federal Motor Vehicle Safety Act and American National Standards Institute
